How to avoid toxic teammates on FACEIT without wasting your block slots
Every tool FACEIT gives you against toxic or griefing teammates: mute, report, Super Match vote-kick, the leaver Elo rule, matchmaking block, and queue timing. What each one actually does.
Every FACEIT player has a list of names they never want to see on their team again. The griefer who flashed you all half, the one who rage-quit at 11–11, the one who spent the game on voice explaining your life choices. FACEIT gives you several tools against them. They do quite different things, and some only work in certain match types.
During the match
Mute early
A muted player can't tilt you. Mute their voice and chat in CS2 the moment it starts. It costs nothing, and you can still read the kill feed and their pings. FACEIT also runs Minerva, an automatic system that detects abusive language in CS2 matches, so the worst of it may get picked up without you doing anything.
Vote-kick, if you're in a Super Match
Super Matches and Premium Super Matches have vote-kick: press Esc, Call vote, and pick the player. Everyone else on your team has to agree, and a kicked player can't rejoin that match. FACEIT asks that it's used for extreme toxicity or griefing, not for someone having a bad game. It is not available in the regular queue.
Know the leaver rule
If a teammate is marked as a leaver (disconnected for more than 5 minutes in total) and your team loses, your Elo loss is cut in half. That doesn't apply if you queued in a party with the player who left. The leaver loses double Elo if the team loses, and gets a queue cooldown that starts at 30 minutes and grows with repeat offences.
After the match
Report, with the right reason
You can report from the match room (hover or click their name, then Report player) or from their profile (Report player, then Matches, then pick the match). For in-game behaviour the reasons are usually Toxicity or Griefing. Add a short note and, if you have them, screenshots or a clip. FACEIT says that helps them process the report.
Reports also feed the FACEIT Behaviour Index (FBI) shown on profiles. It starts at 1,000, drops with negative reports and recovers with clean matches. It's worth checking a stranger's FBI before you invite them to a party.
Does reporting work? Slowly, but yes. Of the 344 players that dodged.it users are tracking right now, 16 are currently banned by FACEIT, and 12 of those bans are for verbal abuse or unsportsmanlike conduct.
Not meeting them again
The matchmaking block (Plus and Premium)
The matchmaking block keeps a player out of your matches. You need FACEIT Plus (3 slots) or Premium (5 slots), and it only works in CS2. The free profile block from someone's profile page stops messages, invites and tags but not matchmaking. We wrote up the differences and what to do when the list is full.
Queue with people you already trust
Every spot filled by a friend is one less random. FACEIT's Find Parties helps if your friends aren't online, and a 4-stack plus one leaves a lot less room for surprises than solo queue.
Time your queue around them
This one needs no subscription and no slot. When a match ends, the players from that match are all back in the pool at the same moment and at the same Elo. In our data, the median player started their next match 14.5 minutes after the last one ended, and 40.9% were back in a match within 10 minutes (full data here). If you just shared a lobby with someone awful, waiting 10 to 15 minutes before the next queue cuts the chance of a rematch a lot.
For repeat offenders, it helps to know when they finish. That's what dodged.it does. /track nickname in Telegram, and you get a message whenever their match ends. /list shows everyone you track, with a risk level based on how long ago they finished. It also tells you when a tracked player gets banned, which is always a nice message to get.
FAQ
Can you vote-kick on FACEIT?
Yes, in Super Matches and Premium Super Matches. Everyone on the team other than the player being voted on must agree. It is not enabled in the regular queue, and a kicked player can't rejoin that match.
Do I lose less Elo if a teammate leaves?
Yes. If a teammate is marked as a leaver and your team loses, your Elo loss is reduced by 50%. That reduction doesn't apply if you queued in a party with the player who left.
How do I stop getting the same toxic player twice?
With Plus or Premium you can put them on your matchmaking block list (3 or 5 slots). Beyond that, track them and queue when they are mid-match or done for the day. Most players start their next match within 15 minutes of the last one ending.
